Belotero® is an FDA-approved injectable dermal filler created with a hyaluronic acid base to fill in moderate to severe nasolabial folds, also called laugh lines.

    What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body that helps create volume in the skin and make it appear smoother. The hyaluronic acid in Belotero® is absorbed by the body over time.

    Belotero® vs. Botox

Belotero® doesn’t paralyze muscles, like Botox, but fills in areas to reduce the depth of wrinkles, lines, and folds. Patients’ skin retains mobility, flexibility, and a natural look and feel.

    How Does Belotero® Work?

The hyaluronic acid in Belotero® binds with the water in the patient’s skin to fill in lines and wrinkles, giving patients a younger, more radiant appearance. The filler has a soft, gel-like consistency.

The amount of filler an individual patient will need depends on the amount of correction desired, the number of treatment areas, and other factors. Patients should schedule a consultation with their Belotero® provider to learn more about treatment and to find out if they are a candidate.

    What Areas Does Belotero® Treat?

    Belotero® may be used to:

    • Plump the lips
    • Fill forehead lines
    • Contour the cheeks and jawline
    • Correct small nose bumps
    • Treat some types of acne scars
    • Correct under-eye bags
    • Fill in lines around the nose, eyes, and mouth

    How to Prepare For Treatment

Before undergoing treatment, patients will need to attend a consultation to determine if they are a good candidate for Belotero®. During the consultation, the provider will:

    • Review the patient’s medical history
    • Ask about any allergies or medications the patient may be taking
    • Explain how Belotero® injections are done

    How is Belotero® Injected?

The provider will use a marker to map the treatment area and clean the patient’s skin with an antiseptic solution. Then, if the patient is sensitive to pain, the skincare professional will apply a topical numbing agent. However, Belotero® already contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps minimize pain during injection.

Next, the provider will use a fine-gauge needle syringe to inject Belotero®. He or she will gently massage the treatment area to help the filler spread and create a more natural look.

Depending on how many areas are being treated, the entire procedure may take between 15 minutes to an hour. In some cases, patients may need a touch-up to achieve their desired results.

    What is The Recovery Process?

Patients should see results immediately after treatment and can resume normal daily activities right away. However, for 24 hours after treatment patients should avoid alcoholic beverages, excessive heat or sun exposure, strenuous activity, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin.

It’s normal to have some discomfort and swelling near the injection site for 24 hours after treatment. In these cases, applying an ice pack can provide relief.

What Are The Side Effects of Belotero® ?

Belotero® is safe when injected by a trained professional, but there are temporary side effects that may arise, such as swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness.

    How Long Do Results Last?

Depending on which Belotero® product is used, results can last between six and 18 months.
